Nickerson Beach Dawn Birding
Sunday, June 23, 5:00 am
Meet us 5:00 am at the back left corner of the parking lot for Nickerson Beach.
Address for your GPS is 880 Lido Blvd, Lido Beach, NY 11561 [Google map link]
We expect to be birding at least two hours. Rain or shine. Some may continue over the west end of Jones Beach for more birding afterwards. Park admission charged there.
No registration needed for this field trip.
This trip is EARLY to enjoy dawn lighting and to beat the high non-resident parking/beach fee.
Bring lunch, sun hat, sunscreen, plenty of water and a scope if you have one. The walk is flat on the beach.
Email our office if you want to offer rides or would be interested in carpooling. No guarantees but we’ll try to do some match ups based on your responses. (As always, passengers should offer to share costs of gas/tolls with drivers.)
Nickerson Beach is prime territory for a diversity of shorebirds and particularly terns. A key attraction are nesting Piping Plovers, American Oystercatchers and tern species. The wide open beach attracts many beach species. Historically, Nickerson Beach boasts 134 species for sightings in June.
